Green Patent Commons

Green Patent Commons, also referred to as Eco-Patent Commons, a brainchild of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), a CEO-led, global association of some 200 companies dealing exclusively with business and sustainable development.

Eco Patent Commons was borne from the pretext that many corporations hold patented ‘green’ technologies that may help the environment, and save energy. However, in many cases these companies are not pursuing these ‘green’ patents because they are not part of their core business or corporate mission.

The Green Patent Commons seeks to influence corporations to donate these underutilized green patents and technologies for use by the common good.

Green Xchange is a new system for sharing the green patent wealth, and expect other similar exchanges to crop up in the future.
